BODY WORLDS Vital Field Trip Contest Passes 1,000 Vote Mark
More than a thousand ballots have been cast in the first week of voting to decide which South Carolina classroom will receive a free field trip to the South Carolina State Museum exhibit of BODY WORLDS Vital.
As of 10 a.m., Thursday, January 5, Battery Creek High School in Beaufort County is off to a fast start with a more than 400 vote lead over Midland Valley High School in Aiken County. However; considering voting is open to the public and each individual is allowed to vote once per day, this lead could quickly be closed.
Here are the vote totals as they stand at 10 a.m. January 5:
Teachers across the state registered in December to win free admission and transportation to/from the museum for their class via the museum’s Facebook Field Trip Contest. Now Facebook voters will select the winning South Carolina class through January 11. Each South Carolina State Museum Facebook fan may vote once per 24-hour period. The winning class will then receive free admission and bus travel to and from the State Museum during the spring semester, up to a value of $1,000.
Voters simply go to the State Museum Field Trip Contest page at http://www.facebook.com/scstatemuseum and select the “Vote Now” tab to cast your ballot.
For classes that didn’t enter this contest, or aren’t voted the winner, special pricing for student groups is available at $5 per student and chaperone. Admission is free for teachers and bus drivers.
BODY WORLDS Vital is a self-guided exhibit. Advance ticket purchases are recommended. All tickets are for timed-entries and include a full-day admission to the South Carolina State Museum. Call (803) 898-4999 to schedule a field trip and visit the exhibit website to download an educators’ guide to BODY WORLDS and a sample permission slip for students.
Make your life easier by ordering a box lunch and dine in at the museum’s historic Congaree Room. Lunch times must be reserved in advance. All lunch orders must be received at least 1 week prior to your visit.
Be sure to review and download the Educator Guide, and complete the student permission slip for BODY WORLDS Vital before you visit. The exhibition is recommended for school children grades 5 and up.
BODY WORLDS Vital is the largest and most expensive exhibition ever presented by the State Museum. The exhibit opened November 13 and runs through April 15, 2012 with 6,500 square feet of real human bodies, organs and systems assembled to teach guests how best to take care of their bodies and live longer, healthier and happier lives.
BODY WORLDS Vital is open to the public in the State Museum’s Blockbuster Gallery. Regular admission is $11 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and $7 for ages 3-12, in addition to general museum admission. South Carolina students in groups are admitted for $5. Tickets can be purchased, and information can be found, on the Museum’s Web site: http://www.scmuseum.org.
